Torquay and the English Riviera

8 Days £639 per person

Swaying palm trees, busy harbour, international marina and mild microclimate are all reminiscent of the Mediterranean. It is therefore no surprise that Torquay has long been dubbed the English Riviera. However Torquay is a quintessentially English seaside with a pier, promenade and marina and it is a delightful place to wander with stops for the odd ice cream.

This hotel was recently acquired by The Duchy Hotel Group to compliment it’s other highly rated hotels and re-opened at the end of 2016 following a full refurbishment. The hotel is ideally located only 150 yards from the beach and is a short level walk to the town, harbour and theatre. It boasts an indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and the en suite bedrooms are finished with high quality stylish soft furnishings.

MONDAY After an early departure we head south with comfort breaks en route. Upon arrival at our hotel there will be plenty of time to settle in before dinner.

TUESDAY A free day at leisure. Torquay has a superb marina to explore. Walk along the coastal path or search for a souvenir in Torquay’s interesting variety of shops. Why not explore the beautiful gardens at Torre Abbey or visit the seals, penguins and otters at Living Coasts
WEDNESDAY After breakfast today we join the Paignton & Dartmouth Railway for a steam train ride to Kingswear. Here we join the ferry to Dartmouth before taking a circular hour-long cruise along the river and estuary. We have some free time before taking the steam train back to Paignton where we will be met by the coach for the return to Torquay.
THURSDAY After breakfast our excursion takes us to Dawlish, home of the black swan, and then onto the historic resort of Teignmouth with its Grand Pier. Later in the afternoon we will explore the thousands of miniature buildings, people and vehicles at Babbacombe Model Village where the animated scenes and touches of English humour capture the essence of England’s past, present and future.
FRIDAY After breakfast today our excursion takes us Totnes. This small market town has a fascinating history and a stunning location on one of Britain’s most beautiful and historically significant waterways, the River Dart. We then continue to Buckfast to visit the 12th century Abbey and beautiful gardens.

SATURDAY A free day at leisure in resort. Why not walk up the steps of The Royal Terrace Gardens for the amazing sea views across the bay.
SUNDAY After breakfast this morning we take a relaxed drive along the coast to the pretty fishing port of Brixham with its narrow streets, inns, art galleries and craft shops.
MONDAY After breakfast we depart Torquay for our return journey back to Northumberland with comfort breaks en route.
