Highland Railways & Boats

5 Days £469 per person

Sit back and revel in one of Europe’s most breath taking rail journeys, capturing villages and towns including Fort William and Mallaig. The dramatic and ever changing landscape of the Highlands will glide past as we go back in time aboard the nostalgic Jacobite Steam Train. This year we have included a ride on the Nevis Range Gondolas at Ben Nevis, a cruise on the iconic Loch Ness and a trip to one of Scotland’s largest castles.

Like most olde worlde accommodation in the Highlands this characterful Victorian hotel requires a little TLC but offers traditional Scottish hospitality and the friendly staff and cosy lounge bar will ensure a warm welcome. All bedrooms are en suite with TVs and tea and coffee making facilities and the light and airy restaurant offers local produce.

MONDAY Today we travel to the Scottish Highlands passing Glencoe and onto Fort William on the shore of Loch Linnhe in a dramatic setting under Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
TUESDAY Today we take the scenic ‘Road to the Isles’ to the fishing town of Mallaig with its great views towards Skye. There will be free time for lunch before our two hour train ride on the steam hauled* West Highland Line. The train passes Loch Eli, the Caledonian Canal, the 21 arch Glenfinnan Viaduct and Loch Morar with its beautiful views of Eigg, Muck & Phum.
WEDNESDAY This morning we enjoy a visit to the Ben Nevis Resort. Here the Nevis Range Gondolas transport visitors effortlessly up to 2150 feet on the north face of Aonach Mor, the eighth highest mountain in Britain. The journey allows breath taking views of Great Glen, Nevis Range and surrounding areas and on a clear day can extend as far as the Inner Hebrides. We return to Fort William for an afternoon at leisure.
THURSDAY This morning we head to Inverness pausing at Fort Augustus for coffee. There will be time for lunch in Inverness before we join the afternoon cruise on Loch Ness to Urqhuart Castle, one of Scotland’s largest castles. There will be time to visit the castle and visitor centre. Please be aware that access from the loch is via steep steps. Later we will re-join the coach for the return
journey to the hotel.
