5 Days £419 per person

THURSDAY 4TH MAY 2017

Join us on a tour which includes a visit to what was once Britain’s best kept secret, Bletchley Park, the home of the now famous World War II codebreakers and a birthplace of modern information technology. We will also visit Cambridge for a day at leisure and Woburn Abbey and Gardens where we will enjoy a sumptuous Afternoon Tea and uncover fascinating stories and priceless treasures. The beautiful gardens are a perfect place to relax and we’ll take in the scenery as we drive through the deer park where nine species roam freely.

BEDFORD SWAN HOTEL ****

With a stunning location overlooking the Great Ouse in the heart of Bedford, this 18th century hotel is full of character and history. It has cosy public areas and the River Room Restaurant has wonderful river views. The outside terrace is a perfect place to enjoying a drink by the riverside and the Roman Bath inspired leisure facilities include an indoor pool, jacuzzi and beauty spa.

Itinerary

THURSDAY This morning we travel south, with comfort breaks en route, to the Bedford Swan Hotel.
FRIDAY Today we visit Woburn Abbey and its 28 acres of award-winning gardens. This has been the historic family home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years. Discover tales of imprisonment, beheadings, love affairs and Royal visits all set against the backdrop of over 250 works of art. The English custom of Afternoon Tea was popularised at Woburn Abbey in the 1840s by Duchess Anna Maria and today we enjoy an indulgent Duchess Anna Maria Afternoon Tea to be part of this continuing tradition.
SATURDAY Today we will spend the day exploring Cambridge with its historic streets, ancient colleges and lovely bridges. Why not join one of the city’s organised walking tours or just stroll through the historic centre stopping at the boutiques and cafes tucked away along cobbled streets. Alternatively visit the renowned Fitzwilliam Museum or take a leisurely punt along the River Cam passing age-old colleges and immaculate lawns.
SUNDAY Today we visit Bletchley Park, the ‘Home of the Codebreakers’. This unique heritage site and tourist attraction is set within an atmospheric Victorian estate nestled in peaceful parkland. Explore and experience the top-secret world of iconic WWII codebreaking huts and blocks, where codebreaking successes helped to save countless lives by shortening the war by about two years. The National Museum of Computing is also on site and, if you choose to visit, a small admission charge is payable locally.
MONDAY Today is our last day and so we head home with a stop in the delightful market town of Stamford.
