Scottish Snowdrops and the ‘Kingdom of Fife’ Peebles, Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders Railway’ Each year the Scottish Snowdrop Festival gathers together some of the best gardens and woodlands where you can see swathes of snowdrops. These dainty little flowers are one of the most delightful signs that spring is on its way and this year we will visit The Cambo Estate near St Andrews to see their 300 varieties in stunning drifts in woodland settings. Nestled within an area of outstanding beauty the town of Peebles sits straddling the majestic River Tweed. A Royal Burgh since 1152 Peebles has for many years been a market town cherished for its picturesque and unspoilt character. Stroll along the timeless High Street, meander in and about the alleyways and medieval closes and enjoy stunning walkways along the River Tweed. A visit to Edinburgh aboard the newly restored Scottish Borders Railway is also included.

Each year the Scottish Snowdrop Festival gathers together some of the best gardens and woodlands where you can see swathes of snowdrops. These dainty little flowers are one of the most delightful signs that spring is on its way and this year we will visit The Cambo Estate near St Andrews to see their 300 varieties in stunning drifts in woodland settings.

Itinerary

FRIDAY This morning we head north with a break for lunch. We expect to arrive at our hotel during the afternoon and there will be time to settle in before dinner.
SATURDAY Today after a leisurely breakfast we head to St Andrews with free time for an early lunch before our afternoon visit to Cambo Estate where the Snowdrop Festival is underway. The family have encouraged the proliferation over the years and the collection of specialist snowdrops has grown steadily. The Walled Garden offers an oasis of calm and is considered to be one of the finest in Scotland with naturalistic plantings giving a modern edge to this traditional Victorian garden.
SUNDAY After a leisurely breakfast we begin our journey home crossing the Forth Road Bridge to the City of Edinburgh. On arrival there will be free time to visit The Royal Botanic Gardens or simply head to the shops. Mid-afternoon we will continue the journey home expecting to arrive during the early evening.

PEEBLES HYDRO HOTEL ****

Just a stone’s throw from the River Tweed in the heart of the Scottish Borders with fantastic views over the river. The restaurant enjoys one of the most beautiful settings in the Scottish Borders and the lounge features its very own Gin Palace Bar and Sunroom. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool, gym and spa and the bedrooms are en suite with TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.

Itinerary

MONDAY This morning we travel to Jedburgh for lunch and free time before continuing our journey to Peebles for check in at the Peebles Hydro Hotel.
TUESDAY We spend the morning in Peebles, a market town that straddles the River Tweed. This afternoon we have an included a visit to Rosslyn Chapel which attracts visitors from far and wide, drawn by its unique and mysterious carvings and the beauty of its setting. A new state-of-the-art visitor centre tells the Chapel’s story from its 15th century origins through the Reformation to the Da Vinci Code.
WEDNESDAY Today we head to Tweedbank and join the Scottish Borders Railway. In 2015 passenger services ran on part of the Waverley Line that linked Edinburgh and Carlisle for the first time since 1969. We will travel to Edinburgh on the restored track through fabulous countryside and newly built stations. On arrival there will be time for sightseeing or shopping before the return train journey to Tweedbank.

THURSDAY After a leisurely breakfast we have a morning visit to Melrose before continuing our journey home.
