FRIDAY 12TH MAY 2017
This family-run beachfront hotel has wonderful sea views and an indoor pool. Unfussy bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, TVs and tea and coffee making facilities.
A traditional and characterful Victorian hotel in the heart of Oban. The simply decorated rooms feature en suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, and TVs.
FRIDAY This morning we travel to Ayrshire for the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick on the Isle of Arran. On arrival we continue to the Best Western Kinloch Hotel in Blackwaterfoot for a 3 night stay.
SATURDAY It is easy to see why the Isle of Arran is often referred to as ‘Scotland in Miniature’, with its constantly changing landscape of highland glens and rugged mountains alongside sweeping sandy bays and picturesque coastal villages. We will take a scenic tour around the island including visits to the Arran Heritage Centre and the Isle of Arran Whisky Distillery for a tour and tasting.
SUNDAY Today we discover Brodick, the island’s capital, and its castle which houses a collection of paintings, porcelain and furniture. The grounds boast a walled garden, Ice House and Bavarian Summer House. We will also visit Lochranza, home to a 16th century castle.
MONDAY Today we head for the ferry from Lochranza to Claonaig, on Kintyre. We travel to the picturesque harbour village of Tarbert, which has wonderful views over Loch Fyne and has become a popular yachting destination. We continue our journey to the Royal Hotel, Oban for a 3 night stay.
TUESDAY Today the Islands of Mull and Iona await. We ferry across the Firth of Lorne from Oban to Craignure on Mull, before continuing via Glen More to Fionnphort to board a foot passenger ferry for the short crossing to the tranquil Island of Iona. Although a tiny island, Iona is full of history and heritage with Christianity at its heart. Discover its Abbey (admission not included) and the burial place of Scottish Kings. Later this afternoon we re-join the ferry for the return to Oban in time for dinner.
WEDNESDAY Today is a free day for you to spend as you wish. Why not explore the coastal resort of Oban, known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ and the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’. Stroll along the Esplanade, visit McCaig’s Tower which overlooks the town, enjoy a wee dram at the distillery or visit the War & Peace Museum.
